Summary

Over the last few years there has been a significant rise in mental health problems among teachers. Long working hours, stress and pressure to achieve high academic standards among students are all contributing factors to the mental health problems which teachers are experiencing. More staff and teachers are taking time off of work which is not only impacting mental health but also physical wellbeing.

We have created an introductory training plan to provide teachers with some simple steps and strategies which they can put in place to start looking after their daily mental health. Within the training plan we will introduce you to the mental health continuum and support you to understand different ways you can monitor and assess your mental health. We will look at four key areas which can contribute to positive mental health and how you can start utilising them on a daily basis.

  • Energy management (Sleep and food)
  • Social support (building a support network)
  • Self care (activity schedule
  • Coping skills (grounding exercises)
