Common mental health problems

Summary

Approximately 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year. They range from common problems, such as anxiety and depression, to rarer problems such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

In this resource pack we are going to provide teachers with a basic understanding of common mental health problems (depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety and phobias). We will look at the criteria that is used to diagnose each of these mental health disorders and what treatments are offered to support people who are experiencing these problems. As well as this we will provide staff with support on how to help someone who is experiencing each disorder.
