Summary

Worldwide 10-20% of children and adolescents experience mental disorders. Untreated, these conditions severely influence children’s development, their educational achievements and their potential to live fulfilling and productive lives. Mental health disorders can occur early within childhood and as children get older the prevalence increases. This demonstrates that it is important that we intervene early on to prevent later problems in adulthood. Parents are key to developing an environment that fosters positive mental health among children and adolescents.

This course has been designed specifically for parents to help them work with their children  to support and build positive mental health habits. This course can be used with children 11+ upwards and teenagers. This is one of our most in depth courses to date covering a range of topics including:

  • Mental health statistics among children and adolescents
  • Factors that affect mental health
  • The role of the parent in supporting mental health
  • How parents can support their children to talk about their mental health
  • Developing practical coping skills with children (identifying thinking errors, problem solving)
  • Developing positive physical health habits
  • Supporting your child to build a mental health support network
  • Supporting and encouraging autonomy
  • Learning and applying mindfulness with your child

This course is not a quick fix and is focused on providing educational material to support mental health literacy and to guide parents to start building positive mental health habits with their children and teenagers.
